Jiverly Voong

Jiverly Voong, or Jiverly Wong as some think he is really called, has been identified as the lone gunman who shot some 13 people at a school holding citizenship classes. Or at least, the dead body was found with ID papers in the name of Jiverly Voong. The thought that he might actually be Jiverly Wong is that some say he was originally Vietnamese and the spelling was change from Wong to Voong when he arrived in the USA.

 13 are slain at a crowded immigration services center. The gunman also killed himself, authorities believe. Evidence may point to Jiverly Wong or Jiverly Voong, formerly of Southern California.

An anonymous law enforcement source told the Associated Press that the gunman had an identification card that said he was Jiverly Voong, 42. Authorities searched his home in nearby Johnson City on Friday and confiscated computer hard drives, a rifle case and luggage.

A second law enforcement official said the two handguns found with the body were registered to Jiverly Wong, another name the man used. He once lived in Southern California.

There seem to have been indications that all was not well with Jiverly Voong (or Wong) in the past:

 Kevin Greene, who once worked with 41-year-old mass murderer Jiverly Voong, said a question about a New York Yankees T-shirt he was wearing brought out his dark side. Greene said, "I asked him if he liked the Yanks," and "he said, 'No, I don't like that team. I don't like America. America sucks.'" Greene, who lives outside of Binghamton, said he worked with Voong - whom co-workers knew as Jiverly Wong - for a few months at the Shop Vac assembly plant in Binghamton before it closed in November. He told FBI investigators he and a buddy used to joke about how they thought Voong "would come in mad one day and shoot people. He seemed like that kind of guy."

Ridiculously, the Taleban is now claiming responsibility for Jiverly Voong's attack:

Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud claimed responsibility for the attack on an immigration services center in Binghamton, N.Y., the Press Trust of India reported Saturday.

Mehsud said that a Pakistani and another man carried it out the attack, which left 14 people, including a man the police suspected of being the gunman, dead during a killing spree Friday.

A man, identified as Jiverly Voong by ABC News, reportedly entered the American Civic Association in downtown Binghamton, about 140 miles northwest of New York City, at 10:30 a.m. EDT and opened fire.

A strong claim but not one that I would give much credence to.

A Pakistani Taliban militant leader has claimed responsibility for the attack on a U.S. immigration center in New York state in which 13 people were killed, Reuters reported. "I accept responsibility. They were my men. I gave them orders in reaction to U.S. drone attacks," Baituallah Mehsud told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location on Saturday. U.S. officials were not immediately available for comment about Mehsud's claim, Reuters reported, and one Pakistani security analyst dismissed the claim as a publicity stunt.

It's easy enough to make a phone call, isn't it? While actually finding someone like Voong willing to die in such an attack is a great deal more difficult.

Naah. I think we'll put that down to political grandstanding shall we? Remain with the Jiverly Voong as a lone nutter theory I think.
