Mariana Bridi da Costa

Mariana Bridi da Costa is a twenty-year-old Brazilian model who has participated in Miss World Brazil.

Mariana is currently fighting for her life after she was misdiagnosed with kidney stones.  By the time she was correctly diagnosed with a severe urinary tract infection she was also suffering from septicemia.  This resulted in the amputation of her hands and feet.  Things have worsened and due to internal bleeding Mariana has had to have her stomach removed.

Mariana has had success in modeling competition, coming fourth in Miss World Brazil in 2007 and 2008.  She also came fourth in the 2007 Face of the Universe competition.  In 2008 she won the best body at Miss Bikini International.

Mariana's family and friends are urging people to pray for Mariana's survival, "Mariana is a warrior and will win this battle."

UPDATE  Unfortunately Mariana lost her fight for life on 24th January.

I'd be very careful around hospitals if I were any of you, especially if you are feeling a bit ill. If Ms. da Costa walked in to the hospital to seek treatment on Dec. 30, I doubt she'd be in a state of sepsis by January 3rd unless she got an iatrogenic infection from a multi-drug-resistant Pseudomonas right at the hospital.

Someone has not done their job properly. Someone is gonna get sued. How the hell can a 20-year-old die of a urinary tract infection? Is this hospital in the dark ages? What a bunch of dumbasses they must be.
