Jeremy Piven

Jeremy Piven Mercury Poisoning

Jeremy Piven has left the Broadway production of Speed-the-Plow citing mercury poisoning.

David Mamet, who wrote the play, leaves us in no doubt to what he thinks of Piven's decision, "I talked to Jeremy on the phone, and he told me that he discovered that he had a very high level of mercury.  My understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer."

So why did Piven go?

Maybe he did not fancy Christmas in New York?  It is pretty cold at the moment, snow abounds.

Maybe he was fed up with the schedule of 8 shows a week?  Hardly a television recording schedule.

Maybe he really has mercury poisoning?

Whatever the reason, he has upset David Mamet and the paying public, as receipts dropped by up to a third after it was announced he had left the production.

It seem that 'Sushigate' will follow Jeremy Piven round for a while yet.

It’s interesting in how everyone immediately believes David Mamet that Jeremy Piven was faking his illness, yet in reality no one truly knows the truth. But Mamet has spoken and he must be believed.

Personally, I don’t know if Piven was speaking the truth or not. But I’m not going to make the mistake of assuming one way or the other . . . like Mamet and the cast of “SPEED-THE-PLOW”. Mamet, especially, is full of shit . . . like his TV series on CBS.
