Sandra 'Sibi' Blazic

Christian Bale was defending his wife, Sandra 'Sibi' Blazic during the confrontation with his mother and sister that led to his arrest, according to an un-named source.

Jenny Bale, his mother, and his sister Sharon claim he lashed out at them at his suite in the Dorchester Hotel, London.  But the source claims his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him and his wife, Sibi Blazic.

The Independent reports the allegations against him:

His mother, Jenny, 61, and sister, Sharon, claim he lashed out at them on Sunday night in his suite at The Dorchester hotel, in Park Lane. They reported the alleged incident at a Hampshire police station on Monday. The complaint was then passed to the Metropolitan Police, who spoke to Mr Bale before the film premier but allowed him to attend the event on condition that he present himself at Belgravia police station yesterday.

A police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment. He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. He has since been bailed to return on a date in September."

Curiously, Jenny Bale is reported in Now Magazine as saying that they did not call the police at all.  Which rather begs the question who did?

'Yes I was there and yes there was a family situation but the police are handling it and I cannot say any more at the moment. We didn't call the police to the scene. I can't say any more but we didn't call the police.'

The Daily Mail on the other hand, reports a source close to the actor who says he did not touch the women, but he did get very loud when his wife was insulted.

‘Christian was stressed, but he didn’t lay a finger on anyone. Instead, he flew off the handle and cussed his mother. He just got very loud because his mother was saying some very outrageous things about him,  and his wife.  Christian's attitude is that this was his mother's fault because she became very provocative in an argument they were having. Things got out of control and he now says he wishes he just left the room.’

The Guardian have Christian Bale's statement, issued through his solicitors.

"Christian Bale attended a London police station today [Tuesday], on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister," said the Schillings firm in a statement.

"Mr Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police,"

So we have a man who either assaulted his mother and sister or just shouted at them and they in turn either called the police or they didn't who subsequently turned up and he was arrested.  With details so murky, it's hard to come to a judgement one way or another - which of course is as it should be, he shouldn't be condemned before he's even charged with a crime.

However, I will say this.  There are many ways to bring about volatile explosions; placing sodium in water, for example.  But there is nothing in this world more likely to create an eruption than a man's mother pointing out the flaws in his wife.
