Kevin DuBrow
Kevin DuBrow, formerly lead singer with the 80's glam metal band Quiet Riot has died at his home in Las Vegas. His body was found by friends on Sunday.
Quiet Riot vocalist Kevin DuBrow’s body was found by friends in his Las Vegas home on Sunday. DuBrow recently spent his birthday weekend in New Orleans where he ate great food and even caught The Cult at The House of Blues. DuBrow grew up in Hollywood, California, before settling in the Los Angeles suburb of Van Nuys at age 13. By the time he was in his mid-teens he had developed an appreciation for a number of British rock acts including the Small Faces, Spooky Tooth, Rod Stewart and Humble Pie. It was the latter of those influences that would leave the biggest impact on DuBrow and act as a compass in his musical career.
A history of Kevin DuBrow's band:
The original band was started by Randy Rhoads in 1975, but broke up in 1979 when Rhoads went on to join Ozzy Osbourne's band. In 1980, DuBrow formed a band he named DuBrow, which also included brothers Tony and Carlos Cavazo. After Rhoads' death in 1982, Dubrow changed the name of the band to Quiet Riot, which his record company felt would allow the band to capitalize on wide name recognition. Rudy Sarzo ended up joining the band once again before the release of Metal Health, which stormed to the top of the charts, making Quiet Riot the first metal band to achieve number one status on their (U.S. release) debut album. Songs like "Cum on Feel the Noize", and "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" then launched them into national fame.
And for recent developments in DuBrow's career:
Quiet Riot continued through the 90's in several different incarnations. They released several albums including Terrified, Down to the Bone, Alive and Well and Guilty Pleasures. They continue to exist as a band to this day.
In 2004, DuBrow recorded a collection of cover versions for his first solo album, In for the Kill.
During 2006, Quiet Riot worked on a new studio album that was expected to be released in either 2006 or 2007. The band stated that they had set no timetable for the release of the album, that they are financing the project themselves, and that it would be released when they see fit and on their terms.[1]
The album, Rehab, was released on October 3, 2006. The lineup on the album is Kevin DuBrow, Frankie Banali, Tony Franklin, & Neil Citron. Legendary singer Glenn Hughes also makes a guest vocal appearance on the album. However, as was noted above, this version of the band no longer exists.
And here is Kevin DuBrow in his full pomp.
I'd cavil a little at the description of DuBrow's musical influences up at the top there though. That's pretty much a straight cover of Slade:

few acts ever attain the ability to draw a faint smile from the listener 20 years down the line when they hear one of those old tunes, who is not in their late 30's early 40s, and don't crank that volume when they hear those first few notes of [cum on feel the noise}dam kevin, you put the dreams in my heart to rock and roll, and i'm putting quiet riot back on our set list thanx bro

I basically grew up with the original band of Randy, Kevin, Kelli, and Drew in Burbank. A band my brother was managing (Raven) shared rehearsal space with Quiet Riot and Frankie and later Chuck Wright came from another band he managed. So I have known and seen these guys for a long time and will miss Kevin and Quiet Riot.

God Bless you Kevin, and your band mates. I appreciate the fact that we played many shows together. When you guys opened for my band, JOSHUA, at the "Music Machine" show, in Santa Monica, and "The Country Club", in Reseda, we packed those places, with no room left for anyone. There were lines around the block. We had a wonderful time together, and got along, just great. Frankie, I was closet to you. I hope you are doing alright brother. God Bless you all, My deepest sympathy, Joshua Perahia

It sucks seeing the 80's metal icons going one by one, especially at age 52. I wasn't a huge Quiet Riot fan but did listen and respect the group. It hit me hearing the news of Kevin Dubrow and made me realize how fast life really does go by. I hate seeing Kevin disappear into the clouds but its time to remember all the great things he brought to this earth. RIP Kevin Dubrow.

His great talents as a singer, performer and articulant spokesman for the genre he help solidify will be dearly missed.

He will surely be missed. I didn't get this news until yesterday from a friend of mine. I was completly and utterly shocked. I am glad I had a chance to see him and the band in concert a few years back. R.I.P Kevin

I remember seeing Kevin and Quiet Riot at one of the open air amphitheatres in Orange County in California. This was mid 80's....they opened for ZZ Top on the Eliminator Tour...What a show!!! Still remember it to this day! Sat 5th row, so I had good seats.
Just found out today about Kevin's passing...what a shock! REST IN PEACE, MAN!!!

Just to correct some factual inaccuracies. Kevin Dubrow was not formerly the lead singer of Quiet Riot. He was until the time of his death, the singer. Quiet Riot was founded in 1973, not 1975. Also, Kevin had been actively working to continue Quiet Riot after Randy left (before he died). I remember Kevin well, and I miss him. Being caught up in the Thanksgiving holiday made me completely oblivious to what had happened. And I'll always remember his last words to me. Miss ya, man.

A voice you can't forget, like Brad Delp and Kev's hero Steve Marriott. What memories! We were truly in the right place at the right time and I don't regret a thing growing up in the rockin' '70s and '80s. Those were the best times, and all the good rockers that went before us would say the same thing. Keep your fist up, bang your head and ROCK ON! RIP, Kev!
