Timmy Elsewhere

Two at The Business.

Shamelessly nicked from The Croydonian and yes, but which 75% should I fire?

Nice to see it put to good use...

Speaking of Croydon, we may be staying there when I take my mom to the UK next year. The East Croydon station appears to be conveniently located both to Gatwick (15 minutes?) and London (20 minutes?). As neither of us are interested in remortgaging one of our homes in order to spend 5 nights at a hotel in London (dumps beginning @ $250 US/night), Croydon's relative low prices ($100 US/night at either the tres chic Jury's Inn or Holiday Inn) are attractive. It also makes it easy to return the rental car before tackling the tubes of London.

Exactly how bad an idea is this? Informed opinions welcomed.

Tim adds: Croydon itself really ain't all that interesting. However, as a base for this sort of trip it certainly has its good points.

Thanks, Tim. As you say, Croydon itself does not appear to have much to recommend it as a destination. The idea was that the convenient access would permit us to return there for sleeping at the end of long days spent in London or elsewhere. (When you think about the difference in cost between two rooms there and two rooms in central London for 5 nights, we could probably go everywhere by taxi, have tea at Claridges, dine at the Savoy nightly and still come out ahead ;-).

Croydon is decidedly not a thing of beauty, but it is awfully well located both for Town and Gatwick. Plus it is served by the nation's only 24 hour rail line....
