Nor This
No, this isn't an April Fool either:
...the comment by Patricia Hewitt. "It was deplorable," pronounced our tight-lipped Health Secretary, "that the woman hostage should be shown smoking. This sends completely the wrong message to our young people."
Although don't you wish it was?

Did Patricia Hewitt really say that, or is this another of Booker's stories that don't stand up to any checking?

Somewhat reminiscent of the Not the Nine O'clock News Question Time sketch where the panel is debating the future of Britain as a world power given the fact that the Soviet Union has launched a nuclear strike on Britain and the missiles will be arriving in "4 and one half minutes". Frances Morrell observes something to the effect that everyone is missing the most important point which is that thanks to Tory policies, 3 million people will die unemployed. If you haven't seen it, make every effort to, it is one of the classics.
What is sad is that back in the eighties such an absurd suggestion was only possible in satire, in Tony's Britain the preposterous is now goverment policy.

Are you sure this isn't an April Fool? It's so hard to tell...

I confess that I assumed it was an April Fool joke. Anyone got any evidence?

What other stories?
