Britblog Roundup #89

Yes, welcome once again to the Britblog Roundup. I do hope that like good little citizens serfs you remembered that The State decides for you what time of day it is and that you all remembered to get up an hour early today? Yes children, it is Fall Forward, Spring Back, which is the proper little mnemonic to remind you which way to change the clocks.

On with the show and you can make nominations for your choices to be included next week by simply sending the URL of a post you think we all ought to see by email to britblog AT gmail DOT com.

First up is The Yorkshire Ranter. Given the murderous and incompetent behaviour of his staff, isn't it about time Sir Ian Blair took responsibility and resigned?

A view of the Daily Mail generation from a youngster: Michael Cole.

Saltation with a few memories of wandering around London. Nice to see the old girl can still attract the colonials.

Apparently Mansfield has a new species of cod. Given how far from the sea it is, could this be something to do with climate change?

Chris Dolley: friendly football matches often aren't.

The Liberal Review uncovers Greg Barker's real dirty little secret.

The Tin Drummer thinks that the Union is finished.

Mr. Dodge with another reason to hate the Olympics: it's causing the closure of two of London's finer gig spots.

A lengthy and very angry piece that you really do want to read. The Suspect Paki: you don't have to agree with him, you do need to listen though. (His tagline: 100% Londoner. 100% Muslim. Deal with it.)

Philobiblon reviews a book on the Civil War: like most such, much more messy and involved than the picture normally presented to us.

My London Your London reviews the Terror 2006 plays. Yes, with reservations.

Living The History: the renenactment brigades really do eat the food of the time as well. Bring on the weevils in The Tall Ships Race!

Antonia Bance on the Labour Deputy Leadership. Not a great fan of Harriet Harman.

Inkycircus on how to reduce your car's fuel consumption: lose weight yourself.

The Grumpy Old Bookman is, well, grumpy. Highly perceptive and yet rightly grumpy.

The Englishman on rabbit catchers and speed cameras. It is a quite damning graph.

A Green Councillor explains his reasons for opposing an expansion of a retail site. Good points made, even if I don't agree with his basic premise.

Looking for a tech blog? Try Globa-Tech: written by a 12 year old. I guess this means we're down to using 5 year olds to program the video now, yes? The 12 year olds having whizzed straight past that technology (and me)?

And that's it for this week. Same place, same time next week for another installment and until then:

Toodle Pip!

Tim - It's Spring forward, Fall back! The clocks went back at 2 a.m.!

Tim adds: Naah, naah, that's all a plot, do you hear me, a plot! No wonder the world's going wrong when everyone's two hours off the real times.

I did once talk to an old lady who said she thought it was wicked to interfere with God's time.

It's the Englishman's post - the issue, I mean - which infuriates today.

That's better.
