Surname Search

This has been around for a bit and the Sunday Times points to it again today.

The Surname Profiler.

Find out your socio-economic group by your surname. This checks against the electoral roll and works out (roughly) where each name is in the social standings.

Doesn’t work for rare names like mine though: there needs to be 100 people minimum on the electoral roll with that name. As there are four of us in the UK (the parentals, my brother and I), yes, at least as far as we know, only four people with the surname Worstall, it doesn’t work for us.

Actually playing with it I’m not sure about the socio-economic group. Seems to be more about geographic incidence. Racial as well. Must be slightly confusing to be both Italian and called Cholmondelely

If you click 'geographical location' once you've done a search it gives you (on the right-hand side) some socio-economic stuff. It's based on geography though still, if the 4 Worstall's lived in an area with a lot of tower blocks they'd be deemed 'tower block living' as my girlfriend was, even if they lived in palaces.

"Must be slightly confusing to be both Italian and called Cholmondelely"

Evidence that Mr Chalmondeley-Warner enjoyed his three years as Monty's batman during the Italian campaign?
