Billy Preston Dies

And then there were two? Billy Preston, sometimes known as the Fifth Beatle has died.

NY Times obituary and Roger Freidman at Fox News.

He had been in a coma after suffering kidney failure, the result of lifelong drug addiction.

Shows just how dangerous drugs are I suppose. Dying at 59 after a "lifetime" on the things.

Exactly how many people could be described as the "the fifth" Beatle I wonder. I thought Brian Epstein was first in the queue.

Isn't that Billy Preston leading "My Sweet Lord" during the Concert For George? A magnificent performance.

Right, I'm off to spin Let It Be and the early 70's Stones albums in tribute.

Tim adds: And George Martin I suppose. But Billy Preston is all that decent keyboard work on those last two albums. The organ in Let it Be (and wouldn’t that have been so much betterif he’d done the piano part too?) etc etc
