Arianna Huffington

Cheers Arianna, lovely column there. Not for nothing were you once described as "the most upwardly mobile Greek since Icarus".

Here’s how blogs empower:

Blogging has empowered the little guy - levelling the playing field between the media haves and the media have-only-a-laptop-and-an-internet connection.

Quite right and you’re also right about blogging being a conversation. Remind me again, who does it empower?

For me, one of the defining moments for the new media came last July, with the London bombings. Many of the Huffington Post's London-based bloggers - like Simon Jenkins, Guardian columnist and former editor of the Times - started weighing in with realtime reactions.

Riiiight. A former editor of the Times, Guardian columnist, a man knighted for services to journalism, very definitely one of the Great and the Good, is one of the little guys?

No mention of the blogs that really did go round the world? Europhobia? Perfect.co.uk (seems to be down so a copy site)? Neveratoss? Non-trivial Solutions? Tim Worstall (Ahem)? It Comes in Pints? The Toffeewomble?

Nope, in Arianna’s world Sir Simon Jenkins is one of the little guys empowered by this new technology. My my, how far and fast you’ve risen Ms. Huffington. Better check the wax on those wings, don’t you think?
