Google Adsense.

A quick tip for you if you either have or are thinking of getting Google Adsense on your blog.

Pay attention to where you put the adstrip. Within the Adsense site they talk about this but just to give you a real world example.

When I had the skyscraper strip on the right hand margin earnings were around $100 every 6 months. Now that the same sized strip is on the left hand margin, with traffic roughly constant, earnings are well over $100 each month.

Google says that having them as a top or bottom margin is also as effective.

I assume that this is something to do with the way that people read a page. I would therefore further assume that if your blog is in a language which is read right to left (Arabic and Hebrew come to mind, perhaps some of the Indian languages as well?) that you’d want to invert the above advice.

FYI there's some very good articles over at performancing.com and problogger.net on the best placement of adsense for what they insist on calling 'monetization'.

Only one thing: as a rule, placing anything hosted on a third-party server before the main content (i.e in the left sidebar for most layouts, as HTML is read top to bottom, left to right) in a blog be utterly cryit down, as it can lead to slow loading and unexpected titsups.
