Boris on Polly.
In Boris’ column in the Telegraph today he asks us to go read something else:
More and more of these middle-class Labour Left-wing bossyboots send their children to the most privileged and expensive schools in the country. If you doubt my testimony, read Andy McSmith's article in this week's superselling Spectator.
Umm, as at 8.43 it’s still last week’s issue online. But this little factoid amazed me:
I find it physically sick-making that Labour members and supporters,
such as Polly Toynbee, can campaign stridently against selection in the
maintained sector, yet send their children to fee-paying schools.
Is this actually true? Does (did?) Polly send her children to fee paying schools? I know I have my disagreements with her politics, her knowledge of economics and all the rest but I did think she was refreshingly free from that particular type of hypocrisy. So, anyone care to let me know? Has Boris stepped into a libel suit or is this factually correct?
(I’m aware of others in this situation but I’m asking specifically about Polly.)
I’ve emailed her to ask and will let you know of any response.

The Boris article reminds me a bit of this test at An Englishman's Castle

You may not be aware of the well-known fact that Polly Toynbee failed her 11 plus, and that this, I suggest, is the likely cause of her aversion to academic selection.

Any reply ?
Tim adds: No, unfortunately not. She does respond to about 50% of my enquiries so I’m inclined to believe it’s true.
