Why Don’t They Read Blogs?

In the Times today:

He ran towards the centre of Brixton, throwing away his top with the “New York” logo in Gosling Way, and was last seen in Tindall Street at 12.45pm.

Via Pootergeek two days ago:

In most of the news accounts I have seen this morning, the text on this shirt has typically been reported (Guardian; NY Daily News: Chicago Tribune) as reading "New York."  On closer inspection, however, it actually reads: "New You."

The newspapers have lots of editors and fact checkers don’t they?

Tim, the shirt says "New York". The R and K have been foreshortened by the photo and look like a U. There are plenty of eyewitness accounts saying "New York". Also, if the police know where he removed his top, it's likely that they've got the top in front of them and it says New York. The rozzers have certainly seen the entire video from which this still has been taken and their statement says New York.

The still in the Sun this morning clearly shows that the "U" in "YOU" is two letters. My guess is "R" and "K".
