OJ Simpson Sentence

The OJ Simpson sentence has been pronounced. Simpson has been given 15 years and he'll be eligible for parole after 6 years.

OJ Simpson, who walked away a free man after one of America's most sensational murder trials, was today sentenced to 15 years in prison for a botched attempt to recover sports memorabilia.

Simpson, 61, and his co-defendant and former golfing friend, Clarence "CJ" Stewart, were convicted in October of 12 criminal charges including kidnapping and armed robbery.

The former American football star was found guilty of holding up two sports memorabilia dealers in a room at the Palace Station hotel and casino in Las Vegas before stealing from them in September last year.

Simpson will be eligible for parole after six years. Stewart received the same sentence.

No, we weren't there in the courtroom to hear all the evidence but as far as we're concerned there's a definite whiff of aman being tried and sentenced for what he did or did not do in 1994 rather than whatever it was that happened in Vegas.

The BBC is carrying much the same story (and they've video with it too!).

US football star and actor OJ Simpson has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for armed robbery, conspiracy to kidnap and assault with a deadly weapon. Describing Simpson, 61, as arrogant and ignorant, District Judge Jackie Glass said the evidence was overwhelming. Simpson made an emotional appeal prior to sentencing at the Las Vegas court, saying he was "sorry" and "confused". His accomplice, Clarence Stewart, was also sentenced to 15 years after the two were convicted on 12 charges.

The story has garnered huge amounts of attention, as you would expect. This is just a partial list of stories from earlier today. By the time you read them most will have been updated with the actual sentence that OJ Simpson received.

It is very clear that OJ is being sentenced for what happened in 1994. They have finally pinned something on him. I wonder if it was anyone else would this have even gone to trial much less such a long sentence. I hope that everyone who believes this is not justice but vengence will write Nevada and demand that OJ be given another fair trial at the least. He really should be back in Florida. OJ Please stay home if by some miracle you get out. There are a few people who believe you are innocent.

I am so tired of these Simpson defenders. If the man wasn't black, would these racially biased remarks of injustice STILL be said? Didn't you listen to the tapes??? He is guilty--OF THIS CRIME. Yeah, he killed two people AND GOT AWAY WITH IT; sorry that his future crimes have to remind us all of that! So, what, he should get a free pass the rest of his criminal life?
A great day: Call it Karma, or call it what it appears to be, which is that this stupid and arrogant man (famous for throwing a football and running fast of all things...) is FINALLY IN PRISON. How many crimes has he gotten away with already? Assault ("Domestic Abuse"), eluding police (he had a gun then too), road rage, the thief of cable services, years of lying to evade civil liability for the murder of two people, and now, AGAIN, showing THE THUG THAT HE IS with 12 guilty counts for armed robbery, he gets to stay behind bars for a good many years. That stupid plea; attempting to fool the judge or anyone else with that fake--oh, I didn't mean it (boo hoo)...
What a poor example of a human being who had been GIVEN so much and just couldn't step out of his arrogant, stupid and petty mind. Kim Goldman said it right: he just thinks he can take what he thinks is his. He stole two lives because his ex had the nerve to have a life--and he came prepared to take more lives in this crime. He is indeed right where he belongs: PRISON. Rot there, Simpson.
