Doug Wilson arrested
Doug Wilson of TLC's Trading Places has been arrested for driving under the influence.
Doug was arrested after he failed to yield to a police car which had its lights on and siren blaring. The interior designer has been charged with:-
Aggravated driving under the influence,
Driving on a suspended license,
Failing to yield the
right-of-way to an emergency vehicle,
Unlawful transportation of
alcohol.
Pretty impressive list!
He was booked into Decatur County Jail and released on $1,000 bond a few hours later.

Paris Hilton - shopping
Paris Hilton shops to save us all
Poor Paris Hilton! Now she cannot even do a bit of shopping without questions being raised in the Australian government.
Paris is in Sydney to host a New Years Eve party for which she is being paid $68,500 which for her is probably very little money. So Paris decided to go shopping and spent $3,488 in a 40 minute shopping spree.
This caused uproar with local charities accusing Paris of callous excess. Have the Australians never been designer shopping before. It really does not take long to spend $3,500 these days.
Paris defended her 'splurge' saying, "I'm in Australia, I think it's important to help out, you know, the economy out here, everywhere in the world. And what's wrong with doing a little shopping? It's New Year's, I need a New Year's dress."
Now here is the weird bit, Julia Gillard acting Prime Minister was questioned about Paris's shopping. Why? Is there nothing more important going on in Australia at the moment. Nothing at all?!?

Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable versus Viacom
Time Warner Cable and Viacom are locked in a money war which could result in 13 million US television viewers losing 19 channels as of midnight December 31.
Viacom want more money and Time Warner Cable say no.
Time Warner Cable spokesman Alex Dudley says, "Viacom has asked for fee increases of between 22 percent and 36 percent per channel, or a total of $39 million more, an amount that could increase customers' cable bills. The issue is that they have asked for an exorbitant increase in their carriage fees and their network ratings are sagging. Basically we're trying to hold the line for our customer."
Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew disputed the figure, saying Viacom requested an increase in the very low double-digit percentage range.
"We make this request because Time Warner Cable has so greatly undervalued our channels for so long. Ultimately, however, if Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and the rest of our programming is discontinued - over less than a penny per day - we believe viewers will see this behavior by their cable company as outrageous."
Viacom then did a dirty trick and took out a full-page advert in the New York Times telling Time Warner Cable customers what is happening. They also ran TV ads and put a ticker across the bottom of their television programmes. Viacom asked customers to call Time Warner Cable to demand the shows remain on the air.

Matt Dillon has been arrested and charged with driving at an excessive speed.
Dillon was caught doing 106 mph on the Vermont state highway. He is due to appear in court in January and if convicted could face up to three months in choky and $300 fine.

Sassy Water
Sassy Water seems to be an integral part of the flat belly diet. The idea is that instead of just drinking lots of water (that 2 litres a day, or 8 glasses) which is such an integral part of all sorts of diet programs you should instead drink "sassy water".
There are a number of different recipes for sassy water but most seem to include ginger, cucumber and lemon. There are a few claims made about the ingredients themselves, that ginger helps the digestive tract, that cucumber prevents bloating (or is it causes it?) but all of these effects seem to be pretty marginal.
The real point about sassy water is that it gives you a small flavour, without calories, which aids you in drinking that 2 litres of water a day. That's pretty much it, at least as far as we've been able to work out. Rose's lime juice would work just as well, as would a splash of pretty much any juice (a splash, a blush that is). Except, of course, for the fact that such things do indeed contain calories.
There's pretty much no cost to sassy water, which puts it a step above most diet mumbo jumbo. But the real point is that you can have pretty much any flavouring you want in your 2 litres....although try to make sure there's no calories in that flavour.
Just for balance, here's a number of people who disagree with my thoughts on sassy water.

Flat Belly Diet
The flat belly diet is back in the news again. Sigh. Sorry, but there's nothing to hte flat belly diet, nothing at all. Here's a reprint of the post from last time the nonsense came around:
The flat belly diet seems to be the latest attempt to part slimmers from their money. The flat belly diet is based upon the idea that certain sorts of fats, if eaten, (MUFAs, or mono unsaturated fatty acids) help you to lose weight.
While MUFAs (such as olive oil) are indeed better for you than some other fats, this isn't going to make your belly flatter.
With the weather heating up, flat stomachs will soon be fully back in vogue. So how can one regain their svelte form after a long winter full of calorie-laden feasts?Enter the flat belly diet, an innovative new regimen from the editors of Prevention magazine.....Dietician Lisa Richardson said she likes the balance of nutrients, but is skeptical at the claim of a flat stomach due to vital external belly fat factors such as genetics, sleep and stress.Richardson said sit-ups are a better alternative to those aspiring to flatten their stomachs.

That's not so much a diet as an entire lifestyle change. Again, whatever gains come from this are coming from simply eating less than previously. The flat belly diet won't whatever they tell you, give you a flatter belly or a faster weight loss than absolutely any other method of reduced calorie intake.
And a six pack will only be achieved by exercising. Sorry, but there it is.

Zune frozen
Every 30 GB zune is frozen: Yup, something has gone terribly wrong and the Zune frozen meme is going to travel a long, long way I think.
Microsoft is just squeezing in under the wire to claim the rights to “weirdest tech story of the year.”Last night at approximately 2 AM, every 30GB Zune model on the planet crashed at the exact same moment.
The Zunes reset, powered up, then froze on the loading bar screen, and
no conventional method of resetting them appears to work.
Or as Gizmodo reported the Zune frozen matter:
The crisis has been dubbed by Zune users 'Z2K9', due to the apparently synchronized faceplantings across the country. According to tipster Michael, the Zune users experienced something like this:
This isn't, assuming that it's true, going to be easy for Microsoft to shrug off. There's more about it of course:
If you visit a Zune forum, you’ll see topics like “Z30 Frozen” or “Zune won’t do anything” or “Unresponsive Software.” Microsoft has yet to make any comment on the issue, likely because it is so early in the morning and they haven’t had the chance to determine what the issue is.
Indeed, at this blog we've even been known to undertake a little bit of "real reporting"!. Yup, that's where you phone people up and ask "WTF?"
This is what happens it appears:
According to hundreds of reports from users worldwide, 30GB Zunes are freezing and locking up due to what appears to be a new years date bug.
It appears as though only 30GB Zunes are currently affected and some reports indicate that only Zunes with the latest firmware are affected, but this hasn't yet been confirmed.
As to that real reporting on the Zune's freezing over story, well, the Zune isn't sold in the UK at all so the Microsoft PR office in London was all "What? Hunh?" Strike out one for the intrepid independent reporters of the blogosphere then.
However, Microsoft does have a "rapid response" PR team but an email to them got the (very rapid it has to be said) response that they didn't deal with that, only the guys in Seattle deal with Zunes.
And given time zones, they're not at their desks yet....hey, wait a minute, they should have been there 11 minutes ago. Allow me to go do some investigatin'.
Update: Microsoft's considered words so far:
"Thank you for your inquiry. We’re looking into the situation and will update you as soon as possible."
So they don't know what's going on either then.
Update. As of 10 am PST this is what Microsoft has to say about it.
Customers with 30gb Zune devices may experience issues when booting their Zune hardware. We’re aware of the problem and are working to correct it. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for your patience!
So no, they don't know what's going on either.
Final update. They now seem to have worked it out.
Early this morning we were alerted by our customers
that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a
large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team
jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal
clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. That
being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time
change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on
the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By
tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit
can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then
turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync
your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you
have downloaded to your device.

Charles Barkley arrested
Charles Barkley, former NBA player has been arrested for driving while impaired.
Police pulled Barkley over after they saw him run a stop sign in the Old Town section of Scottsdale, Arizona. Barkley was taken to a mobile command post where a blood test was taken after he refused to take a breath test. Barkley was issued a citation for driving while impaired and released pending the results of the blood test.
Police say that Barkley, who is known for his quick temper and blunt language, was civil and cooperate throughout the arrest process.
If found guilty of the charge Barkley could expect between one to ten days in jail, the suspension of driving privileges for 90 days, and a fine of $1,000 or more.

At the grand old age of 44, Sarah Palin can now add Grandmother to her list of achievements.
Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston was born in Palmer, Alaska weighing in a healthy 7 pounds and 4 ounces.
As we all know Bristol is an 18-year-old unmarried mother, but that is all going to change. The baby's father Levi Johnston is going to make an honest woman of Bristol as they intend to marry sometime in 2009. They intend to raise Tripp together and Levi is keen to take his son hunting.
