Stand up to Cancer

The Stand up to Cancer telethon will be held on September 5th in the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.  A plethora of stars including Jennifer Aniston, America Ferrera and Casey Affleck to name a few, will be on hand encouraging us to part with cash to help speed up cancer research.  The show will be hosted by Katie Couric, Charles Gibson and Brian Williams.  It will also be simultaneously broadcast on CBS, NBC and ABC.

Lance Armstrong who has beaten testicle cancer will also be in attendance along with Christina Applegate who has just been given the all-clear from breast cancer.  Applegate took the dramatic decision to have both breasts removed after she tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation linked to breast and ovarian cancer.  Even though the the cancer was found in only one breast, Applegate said, "I just wanted to kind of be rid of it, so this was the choice I made and it was a tough one."

Applegate will now have reconstructive surgery over the coming months.  Talking about the reconstruction she said, "I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that,. "I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home. I'll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table."
