Vanisha Mittal

Vanisha Mittal holds the world record for being e bride at the most expensive wedding ever. Which is somthing of a pity for there's rather more to Vanisha Mittal than simply on over indulgent (and incredibly rich) father.

The world's most expensive wedding was thrown by  Lakshmi Mittal for his daughter Vanisha Mittal and  and her fiancée Amit Bhatia on June 22 2004. The wedding was held at Vaux le Vicomte a 17th-century French chateau on the final day of a 6 day celebration. The estimated reported cost of the wedding celebration came in at a mere $60 million USD.

So that's the one thing that everyone knows about Vanisha Mittal. However, there is rather more:

Mittal also raised eyebrows last year for the lavish wedding of his 23-year-old daughter Vanisha. Invitations for the Hindu nuptials were 20 pages thick, encased in silver, and contained jade necklaces or diamond watches for close family friends. The industrialist chartered 12 Boeing jets to fly 1,500 guests from India for five days of festivities in France that ranged from the Tulleries Gardens in Paris to the Palace of Versailles. Fireworks filled the skies, Bollywood stars mixed with the guests, 5,000 bottles of Mouton-Rothschild 1986 were consumed, and pop star Kylie Minogue entertained the throngs before a makeshift castle. The Indian press tagged the cost at $55 million.

Just so you know, that's how such a huge sum was spent on Vanisha's wedding. She's also top on the list of heiresses: the daughters of billionaires:

In top spot on the list is Vanisha Mittal Bhatia of India, who has a masters degree in South Asian studies and sits on the board of Mittal Steel, owned by her father Lakshmi Mittal, estimated by Forbes to be worth $51 billion.

"She's perhaps best known -- dare we say infamous -- for the $60 million wedding her father threw her and 1,000 of their closest friends in 2005. A performance by pop star Kylie Minogue capped the week-long Parisian affair," said the Web site (www.forbes.com).

But as I said, there's more to Vanisha Mittal than just her father's wealth:

Vanisha Mittal Bhatia, was appointed as a member of the LNM Holdings Board of Directors in June 2004. Mrs. Vanisha Mittal Bhatia was appointed to Mittal Steel's Board of Directors in December 2004. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the European Business School and has completed corporate internships at Mittal Shipping, Mittal Steel Hamburg and an Internet-based venture capital fund. She is the daughter of Mr. Lakshmi N. Mittal.

Not all that much more, to be sure, for her appointment as a director was dependent upon the fact that her father owned the company. Still, it's rather better than the antics of that other heiress, Paris Hilton, isn't it?
