Dog Chapman

Dog Chapman (also known as Dog the Bounty Hunter) has had production of his TV show suspended after the National Enquirer posted a clip of his having a phone conversation with his son in which he used the "N" word repeatedly.

The Enquirer says they have two tapes of the Dog hurling insults at his son, Tucker, during an undated telephone conversation. It appears as if the Dog is concerned that Tucker's girlfriend, Monique Shinnery, who is black, will set him up because of the language the Dog uses.

In the nearly eight minute long tape posted on the Enquirer's website, Dog says the N word numerous times and demands that Tucker break up with Monique or he'll be fired from the family bail bond business.

There's a fuller report on Dog Chapman's outburst here:

TV bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman on Wednesday apologized for using the N-word repeatedly in a profanity-laced tirade during a private phone conversation with his son that was recorded and posted online.

Chapman, star of A&E's hit reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," responded after The National Enquirer posted a clip of the conversation in which Chapman uses the racial slur in reference to his son's black girlfriend.

The Enquirer and TMZ.com reported A&E suspended production on the series, the cable network's highest rated show, pending an inquiry. A&E did not immediately return phone messages seeking comment.

...

In the conversation, Chapman urges his son to break up with his girlfriend. He also expresses concern about the girlfriend going public about the TV star's use of the N-word.

"I'm not going to take a chance ever in life of losing everything I've worked for 30 years because some (expletive) n--- heard us say 'n---' and turned us in to the Enquirer magazine."

In the clip, Chapman also stated he doesn't care that his son's girlfriend is black and it wasn't about race.

Now the thing is, use of the word "nigger" is not a crime, whether it's used in public or, as in this case, in private. It may well be rude, impolite, hurtful, all sorts of things, but it's not actually illegal.

So there's no contact with hte law here, it's a private matter for Dog and his employers, which is entirely fine. And while there is indeed freedom of speech in the US, there's also the duty to take the consequences of your exercise of it.

I am one of Dogs biggest fan. getting into law enforcement myself I feel that everyone makes mistakes and dog has come a long way in life and has done good for many people and he does not deserve for a few comments for his show to be taken off. He is a respectable person and I stand behind him as a fan. I feel his son had no right to ruin his reputation forever. He has instilled good into the lives of many people. HE speaks in schools and helps criminals to get better and be off the streets. I hope that the tv reconsiders cancelling him.

I think people need to start worring about the more important issues out there then a PRIVATE talk between father and son. Not to long ago people were saying what happens in private life should not effect ones' postion. Remember Clinton's love affair and weed? We were suppose to just forget what happened, now lets do the same thing here. Dog was not addressing us, but his son. You show me one person who has never made a radical slur in their personal lifes! A&E is wrong for taking his show off but look at what is comming on now... paid programing! That should bring viewers rating up! Go Dog we still love you!!!!!!!!

I still hear the "N" word...usually from black comedians on TV but sometimes from black people I meet (like my beautician) in real life.

Certainly it is not in good taste, but it is not a capital offense...and to fire this man over a private conversation with his son is ABSURD.

Dog uses inappropriate words when he gets excited. It's MF this & GD that. The n word is just another shock word. He has black friends, as we all do,& isn't racist. He needs to clean up his words. They are offensive & unnecessary. Come on Duane, you're the man, step up and clean up the words. Your Arkansas fans believe in you.

D.O.G. is an amazing person. He's done many great things for Hawaii, including helping many different people of countless racial and ethnic backgrounds, INCLUDING African Americans. He has treated them no differently than anyone else. His pastor is a black man!

His actions show that he is not a racist person. Not to forget though, that the recording and distribution of D.O.G.'s private conversation was violating Duane's constitutional rights. Not many people seem to touch base on that and that is concerning.

Do not fired the Dog . Hey what is going on Dog was having private conversation with his son and his son sold the converstion for money. I do not want the Dog gone keep him on the air. Enough is enough. This country and their sensitive touchy feely. I was watching a black person go on and on calling another person a N word the other night on TV. Dog was talking about the womams charater not her color of skin. Whatever crybabies

I also agree! He made a mistake and the Dog is sorry! He has black friends and has helped alot of people. His language is inapropriate but thats the Dog! If you didnt fire him for all the profanity he uses in the show then dont fire him for a private conversation. Everyone diserves a second chance if truely sorry. So grow a backbone A&E and give him his show back. I am with you Dog we forgive you brother!

Has anyone thought that the Dog just might have been set-up. What child records a phone conversation with it''s father or mother, and then hold it for eight months until he get the highest bid. Sound to me like his son and his girlfriend planned this from the start. Just how did the national enquirer ( not worth capitalizing) find out about the tape to begin with. Sure The Dog says somethings that his shouldn't, don't you. At least he is honest about it. A & E should rethink thier decision and look at this for what it is. A SET-UP There are only two programs that I watch on A& E. Dog the Bounty Hunter and CSI Miami.

I cant believe that so many people chooe to believe in this phony character including A&E. He is a bigot who is a fraud and convicted feln who chases down felons. His wife #15 Beth is a slob who is a crystal meth freak and shop lifter who also chases down felons and treats them as if their not human beings. If you people look at the fabric of the show, it is not hard to understand that these people are phony racist lowlives. What is A&E thinkng when they try to profit off a guy who has almost 20 kids across the nation and pretends to be so righteous? Are you kidding me? These people make me laugh as does A&E who bails out the minute the DOG shows his rue colors. All praise to his son for having the balls to turn him in....................... Oh and by the way, beth you need to loose weight, stop acting like chasing fugitives is a fashion show and get some fashion tips you wanna be Anna Nicole Smith slob.

It is offensive to me that he uses such language, however I have known many people who do and do not actually intend to hurt any black people, but what most of you are overlooking is that fact that his remarks were directly fired off out of his mouth towards one black person whom he has never even met, but felt he has the right to call the N word. He should apoloigize to her and take the time to make her feel better and get to know her if she will allow it. He should also stop worrying about being set up as he says and act in such a way that he doesn't have to worry about being set up. I am so tired of hearing people excuse bad language because black people say the N word, where is your back bone people? Two wrongs dont make it right and bother way I am white in case you are wondering.

This bumbling bunch of Hawaiian hooligans deserve all they get!! Had them on a flight a month ago and called one of our asian flight attendants a "stupid idiot" and had police called on them after tirade on the plane over food!! Did it all themselves, classless and clueless bunch of creeps. Can not believe Beth has a hairdresser travel with her....now that is a joke!! Keep 'em off the air, they are worthless trailer trash.

Dog should obviouly no trust his son after taping the conversation, which is illegal to do in Hawaii without all sides' permission to tape.

Send the bast*** to jail!!!. As for racial slurs, welcome to Hawaii, maybe Dog should have used the more local term "papolo" instead. At the minimum a private family argument should remain private. Btw: the Nixon tapes have the President saying much worse terms in the Oval Office and no one seemed to go ballistic.

Yes, i' a big fan of the Dog,also, however, if he has changed fron his old ways and has received the gift of Jesus christ in his life the "n" word should have never been used, publicly or privately. see, a man's reputation is only what he can show-a performance if you will, but a man's character is judged by what he says or does in private when no one is looking or listening....think about it.

Bottom line is ~ Let he who is without Sin cast the first stone! Yes ~ Dog made a mistake, but he is only human and if he wasn't on TV nobody would have given this a second thougtht!
Leave him & his family alone and let him make his peace! Enough already! Blacks all over the entertainment industry call each other that and nobody gives it a second thought! I think we're alittle 2 faced as a nation, stomping on whoevers rights when it's convient! He's sorry ~ let him support his family!! I for one will not watch A & E if they take him off!

Are you serious? That was the phoniest apology I have ever heard. The Dog is nothing more than another low class individual showing his true colors. All races understand their are certain terms you do not use. He is a grown man and is fully aware it is inappropriate at any time, I don't care how many black folk you are friendly with. I listened to the audio, their is nothing cool sounding about it, it was hateful and used in that way. He is the reason men with long hair, beards and tattoos are stereotyped as KKK members and low life bikers. Thanks alot DOG!

There are many on both sides of the issue that really need to get a grip.
The word 'nigger' has way more power & impact that it deserves to have and it is high time that it quits having that much power and impact.
Regardless of how Dog felt about his son's girl friend and why, he should have called his son's object of affection deragatory names (racial or not) for common sense reasons. Secondly, calling anyone on the phone and screaming at them is in MHO, the psychic form of home invasion. Dog is old enough to know better or should be.
I think the National Inquirer is disgusting for what it did. Why did Monique the girl friend and the rest of us have to know.
I don't think his son should have turned him in, because Dog is still his dad even if he is an idiot.
Dog claims that saying 'nigger' was the worse thing he ever did. Saying nigger is worse than murder, robbing someone, or beating them up? Something sound weird here?
The whole episode is dog gone idiotic...

It's time to put all this to an end. Dog Chapman did nothing wrong, he said a word and it was just that a word. Nigger. in the priavcy of his own home to his Son. I think what this is really about is the fact that Mr. Chapman told his son to grow up and to stop asking him for money and get a job and take care of himself. just as his brothers and sister are doing. So now his son is mad and is trying to get what he can out of his Dad one way other. So by taping his father and calling the tabloid and getting paid for it just proves my point.
Think about it how may people Can honestly say that they have never said that word before in good or bad. Black people call each other Nigger all the time no one say's anything about that. Or if a Black person calls a white person a whitie or cracker no one say's anything about that.
When someone is mad they say things they don't really want to say and 99% of the time it hurts someone u care about. You never mean too but it happends. God made us all human no one is perfect. God made us to where we can make our own decissions and choice right from wrong.
Also this is the UNTIED STATES OF AMERICA, and we have the right of FREEDOM OF SPEECH. espically in our own homes. let it go people this is 2007 and what our forefathers did is not who we are now. Get real, their is a lot of good that Mr. Chapman and his family has done. and will contiune to do, right now he has the devil on his back and myself i'm praying that the devil gets off soon.
Anyone that can turn their lives around and make something out of themselfs and then help others is ok in my book and desivere alot more than what he is getting right now.

"Reed" was absolutely correct....what a man does in private or when no one else is looking is the only true indication of his character. When you're in the comfort of your own home, the 'real' you comes out....your true colors show... Anyone can put on a front for the public and the cameras, shake hands with blacks, and have black "friends"...but at the end of the day he's a racist plain and simple....If throwing around the N-word....particularly with such viciousness and disdain does not spell bigot...then, God help us all...Those of you who can't see it are most likely racist yourselves...

Posted by: Shelly | Nov 9, 2007 7:19:19 PM

Still the whole thing has a very erie stalinist quality to it. A kid turning his parent in... A man (regardless of what you think about him) being losing his livelihood for a thought crime... Welcome to Soviet Amerika...
Hypocrites like sharpton, jackass, and Roy Anus screaming bloody murder like their shit don't stink... Of course only white people can be racist, blacks never are...
In the choice between nookie and family, Tucker Chapman made the wrong choice... Will his girl friend appreciate his choice... How long will it last...
The thing stinks... All of it.
