Will Al Gore Run?
In a way I hope he does. I'm most certainly no fan of the big government liberalism of Hillary or Obama and John Edwards seems not even to understand his own statistics about poverty which isn't a good sign.
But perhaps te greatest joy would be if Gore were in fact to win. The Presidency is more a bully pulpit than a strong chief exectutive, and having to deal with and persuade the various interest groups would do more to dull his environmental extremism than anything else.
Sort of, a go on then, show us what you can do strategy...the implication being that given the log rolling of real politics, no one can actually do very much.

» Shhhhhh! 'Gore Campaign Team Secretly Assemlying' from Hyscience
God's gift to the Republicans in 08, and in the process, also America - saving the nation from the "weak on defense, anti-war, and of dubious patriotism" Democrats, is "secretly" preparing a campaign team. Of course it's not such a secret that you can'... [Read More]

Most likely he will run as a Green. He has hijacked the environmentalists as his own political base. He is a cynical demagogue.

He is also quite smart, though, and you'll note that he used to be vice president, so he probably has a fairly good understanding of the limits on the executive.

He will not run as a Green and he is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is. Unfortunately.
McCain has already positioned himself to run as a spoiler, which would help Gore.
Hilary has opened the door for this. Due almost purely to the amount of money she is able to raise, she has created a bar so high that Obama and Edwards are the only two left in the field. Edwards is a light-weight and Obama is even more so. Since Al can probably pull in the money, he has shot to get in. Hilary is "well known" to be acceptable to slightly less than 50% of the electorate, which gives Al an small edge.
Look for Al versus Hilary by the end of the year, with Obama falling beind and Edwards out of sight.
Hilary will then try to recruit Obama for VP, which would make an interesting fight. If Al gets Obama before Hilary then it's over. I suspect this will be pretty obvious to both Al's and Hilary's camps once Al jumps in. Freezing the democratic ticket before the end of 2007 should make things easy for the republicans but no-one in the field yet is a credible conservative.
Al should get in easily unless he has to run against someone like Fred Thompson but in that case, it's possible that McCain could run with Lieberman on an independent ticket. However, Hilary will do whatever she can to win the nomination, which is probably the best hope for the republicans.
