Britblog Roundup #97 AND 98
Yes, this week we have a unique double issue of the roundup of your nominations for those blog posts we should all be reading. Several reasons, I forgot to do one on Chrsitmas Eve, few people are blogging at this time of year anyway, I've just moved house and well, mutter mutter, excuse, excuse.
Still, enjoy this last one of 2006 and the first warmed by genuine Algarvian electrons, so much more citrussy than those previous Lisboan ones.
First up has to be this from d-Squared. I have, over the past couple of years, been known to disagree with the man on a number of points but this post is an absolute corker. A complete gem and if he hasn't already I'd love to see him try and slip it into CiF. Seriously, it's so good that he gets a free pass for a few weeks for being Welsh. There's little higher praise available to a Somerset boy, let me tell you.
Julia Buckley on the freelancer's office party. 'Tis just so.
Nee Naw is able to save a child's life in just another day at the office.
Goosefat on Myspace accounts and being arrested for murder. Who actually owns the posts?
AI Dodge remarks upon Guido's good taste in measuring the tottiness factor.
Francis on the Bank of Scotland. Well, if you can't expose the inefficiency of a bank on your blog, where can you
Chris Dolley compares Turkmenbashi and Tony Blair and their respective legacies:
So, expect an announcement next year that Big Daddy may be quitting 10 Cherie Street sometime around the 25th of Tony.
Liberal Review makes the quite startling case that the Liberal Democrats should, well, start acting like, umm, liberals.
Pigeon Post on the Al-Yamamah decision. Either we have the rule of law or we don't, it's not a sometime thing.
The Devil's Kitchen shows that getting laid regularly does not necessarily reduce one's spleen.
Christopher White continues to show that he's going to be a handful when he finishes that journalism course. Natalie S would probably like this understanding of Catholic doctrine.
Suzblog is expecting and would like to point travellers to how to say Merry Christmas in 350 languages.
Natalie Bennett seems to be absorbing James Bartholomew's point, that there was plenty of welfare before the welfare state. (BTW, how can you not like someone who addresses their email, Merry Saturnalia?)
My London Your London on Hellcab. Yes.
Petite Anglaise on dealing with Papa Noel.
Creepy Lesbo digs back into her diaries to give us the true meaning of Crimble.
Unreliable Witness on how to avoid the festive spirit.
Inkycircus brings us the science on that freezing fog that stopped Heathrow.
Stroppyblog has a go at 'ickle Lenin (Great name there, wonderful, hope you don't mind if we all borrow it) on the subject of patriarchy and capitalism.
Pandemian gets tagged with a meme and ends up with plastic testicles. Rather mild for that parish actually.
A slightly unlikely link for this blog, I agree, The Carnival of Socialism on gender and sexuality. Includes a post wondering whether oral sex is the cure for climate change. No seems to be the answer but perhaps further experimentation is required?
Peter Black AM on the Lembit Opik cheeky story.
Nosemonkey has some words that we should not be using next year. I'm most taken with his idea of the Fifth Estate and will be trying to use it as much as possible myself. Actually, if anyone's actually reading blogs at present, how about a few links to Clive with that as the anchor text? That'll solve the attribution problem.
Sir John Mandeville gives us King Richard's Christmas Message.
Redemption Blues returns home to memories of childhood.
The Englishman looks at the Tories list of heroes and is less than impressed. That first comment is wonderful (Stuffing is important, it's what History is about.)
And that's it, the end of this week's extravaganza. You can make nominations for next week's by simply sending the URL to britblog AT gmail DOT com. Until then:

So - TW is a 'Somerset boy'? - me too, and his comments about the Welsh resonate for that reason.
As a child I had to suffer having Batman cancelled on TV to make way for the news-in-Welsh. That kind of opression is hard to forgive.

d2's piece is excellent.

d-Squared's piece is indeed top drawer, but someone should warn him that a twerp masquerading as him has been writing a great deal of tittish stuff all over the web, these many months.

"Fifth Estate" for bloggers - excellent. So commenters on blogs become, may I suggest,The Sixth Estate.
