The Black Dahlia

New movie out, film noir, horrible murder etc.

See, she’s smoking. Deserves it, obviously. Part of the new anti-smoking legislation, all who smoke in films must meet grisly ends.

er, she's not the black dahlia (the victim), she plays the cop's wife.

I saw a trailer for this the other day when I went to see A Scanner Darkly. James Ellroy is one of the most OTT crime writers now active and Brian De Palma one of the most OTT directors, so I think this film will be most interesting.

I was watching some rather formulaic kidnap-thriller type thing a few months back with my girlfriend.

Fairly early in the movie, the hero (Morgan Freeman?) is on a stakeout with his female agent partner. She lights up a cigarette in the car. My girlfriend immediately announced that she must be the baddie.

It took the best part of an hour to get to the denouement but, needless to say, she was right...
