Update: I am coping with the shock as only a Brit (and maybe an Irishman...) knows how - I'm getting well and truly pissed.

shower, get dressed and then get the tube into work. Life goes on.

I'd like to point out that Americans also get "well and truly pissed" when something like this happens-- but with a very different, American, meaning of the word.
