TCS Piece Up.

Lord I love this electronic publishing thing. Techcentralsation has up a piece of mine about that article in the Lancet mentioned below. The story up and refuted before the West Coast even wakes up.

Mr. Tim,
I thought very poorly of the "piece of yours" about the Lancet.

You don't seem to understand that it is way more relevant that people find out that there have been MANY civilians killed in Iraq and MOSTLY by the so called Allied Forces - in other words US and UK (that is what you should present your apologies as an Englishman) than that a piece undermining Kerry is aired days before the election disguised as a "new tv show"- but I am sure you were not as concerned then.

This makes me think Mr. Tim, that you also have an agenda.

In fact, Mr. Tim, it is VERY important that the results of this study are known before the elections and it's just sad that you don't see that.

BTW I am using an email address other than my own here because I am a doctoral student studying in the U.S. and can be sent back to my country at anytime. That is how low our civic rights have gone in this country. However, this friend of mine shares my ideas about your piece.

Whats this "our" business Joana? Your "civic" rights in the US extend only to what the elected government grants you, surely?

How weird JonT - you just focus on my very last paragraph simply ignoring what this thread is about - the article reporting 100.000 civilian deaths, more than half being women and children!

And you don't even seem to understand that last paragraph you chose to comment on. That *was* the point: those "civil" rights do not extend much under the currently elected government. Understand now?

What are you running here? A pro-Tony Blair show?

I think American citizens probably have more rights than most - I don't think the Patriot Act has completely gutted the constitution. You are not an American citizen so therefore do not enjoy the rights that they do. They allow you to study in their country. If you don't like the conditions attached why not go home?

The whole point of this thread is the validity of the casualty figures. How true are they? I don't know - do you? You talk of "agenda" - what is the Lancet's agenda, what's yours?

PS Mr Worstall's scpeticism, is, in my opinion, well held.

scepticism, even.

I'm curious to know Mr. Worstall's scientific qualifications. Does he plan to submit his analysis of the Lancet article to a refereed journal where his analysis can be examined by scientific peers?

My qualifications as a peer reviewer? Not many. Which is why I am currently working with a noted statistician and peer reviewer on a more considered response to the Lancet paper.

You really really need to learn something about statistics. Click on my name for details.
