That Selective Reduction Story.

This story is all over the place, an NYT piece on a selective reduction of the number of fetuses in a multiple pregnancy. Michelle Malkin is as disgusted and outraged as she can be, look at the trackbacks to her piece to see quite how many agree. I'm not going to add my own thoughts to the basic story as I'm not sure that I can express them in a manner consistent with a public forum.
Two further things did occur to me. The NYT is generally seen as in favour of abortion and a woman's freedom of choice. This piece strikes me as damning with faint praise: taking a woman who will abort 2/3 of her brood so that she does not have to buy large bottles of mayonnaise is not the most stirring call to arms to defend such choices. I think that showing the triviality with which some such choices are made will redound on the pro movement.
There is also to me a rather ghastly image, worse than what was actually done:

Before the procedure, I was focused on relaxing. But Peter was staring at the sonogram screen thinking: Oh, my gosh, there are three heartbeats. I can't believe we're about to make two disappear. The doctor came in, and then Peter was asked to leave. I said, ''Can Peter stay?'' The doctor said no. I know Peter was offended by that.

What if he had stayed? Watching the sonogram, watching the needles enter the hearts, the potassium chloride stopping them? Would they have held hands and watched together?
"Look honey, there's another one gone. Just like a video game, huh, killing the baddies? Too bad we can't do a screen shot to show the little guy his siblings later."
Well, they do say families should do things together.

I came across this article last night reading the NYT magazine. I thought it was a hoax or a satire, but according to allahpundit or somebody like that, it isnt a joke.

Its too bad. She looks like a nice girl, however misguided by her grad-school convictions.

Agghghgh. AGHGHGh. Lord have mercy on our nation. And rid us of this nightmare...

Sometimes I honestly wonder how we can lead such tranquil lives with things like this right under our nose.

I am a nursing student and I have to do a debate on selective reduction (con). Everything on the internet is pro. Is there anyone out there that can give me some information?
