You know what this is all about, right ? US Marines in Iraq have noted that Al Jazeera seems to be the only local TV. So they're bringing in equipment for locally produced stations, to be operated and run by locals, to counteract the ,ahem, slightly biased, current coverage.
And of course, big companies and your friend and mine, the Govt, would take time to do this.
The volunteers running this program expect to be actually shipping goods on May 7 th. Yup, less than three weeks from now.

When you need something done fast, the regular Govt and big business rules have to go by the wayside. Like when the Falkands happened and everyone was scrambling to get the fleet supplied. All the regular rules straight out the window ( along with some allies. You know Belgium refused to sell the UK ammunition ? ) and Reagan and Caspar Weinberger simply said " The Armoury doors are open. Take what you need. "
And we did. Commanders and Majors were simply phoning up the US stating " We'll have 100,000 of those please, and 5,000 of those ." And the Treasury got the paperwork months later and signed the cheques.
That's why both those politicians have Knighthoods.

Now I have buddies who deal with the Pentagon regularly and believe me, there is little chance that going through the system would get this equipment there before May 7 th 2005.
